Diablo 4 players who pre-purchased the game received the Murloc Pet as a bonus, though this non-combat pet can only be used in Diablo 3.
Diablo 4 contains ceaseless demons to vanquish, endless abilities to master, nightmarish dungeons to complete and Legendary loot to acquire.
The game was available for pre-order before its official launch and if you pre-ordered the game, you would have received rewards, including the Murloc Pet.
Pets in Diablo 4
Diablo 4 features a lot of great content for players to enjoy, however, it is missing non-combat pets, which was a fan-favorite feature in Diablo 3.
Having a non-combat pet summoned does not help your character, but they are fun to collect and were often designed in humorous or gruesome styles.
Although Blizzard, the game’s developer, is yet to release some non-combat pets to Diablo 4, players can allegedly adopt cats and dogs. These animals are found all around the game, but are mainly in the city hubs around the map.
Diablo 4: Murloc Pet
Diablo 4 was initially released on 5 June 2023, but players could pre-purchase the game prior to its release.
If you pre-purchased Diablo 4, you would have automatically received items when the game officially launched. There were multiple pre-purchase bundles available, including mounts, emotes, cosmetics and pets.
If you pre-purchased the game, you would have received the Murloc pet, however, it has caused some confusion among players. This is because no one was able to find the pet while progressing in Diablo 4.
What most players did not realize is that the Diablo 4 pre-order bonuses were not just specific to the game, as gamers received cosmetics and items in other Blizzard games as part of their purchase.
This essentially means that some items that you received by purchasing a Diablo 4 pre-order bundle cannot be found or used in the game, as it is relevant to another Blizzard video game.
The Murloc pet is actually not for Diablo 4, but it is a pre-order bonus for Diablo 3 players.
Players can find the Murloc Pet in the “Pets” sub-tab in the Diablo Shop menu under the “Collection” tab.
The source of the confusion stems from some of the vague descriptions for the special crossover items that come with a pre-order of the game.
The official description of the Standard, Digital Deluxe and Ultimate Edition pre-purchase bundles revealed that they contained cross-game items.
However if you read the fine print, you will notice that the Murloc pet is specifically created for Diablo 3. Unfortunately, most players were rushing to purchase the game, so they did not read the fine print.
Confirmation email for purchase of free Murloc Pet – Diablo 4 (add-on)
Several players have recently received a confirmation email for a purchase of a free add-on: Diablo III Inarius Wings and Inarius Murloc Pet – Diablo IV (Add-on). Allegedly, only players who play Diablo 4 on a PlayStation 5 got this email.
The free items are reportedly part of a giveaway because of an issue with the items, but some players mentioned that free downloads on PS5 always come with a purchase order of zero dollars.
If you received this email, do not fret, as it is unlikely that anyone is hacking your account or that money was deducted from your account. Simply enjoy the Inarius Wings and Inarius Murloc Pet in Diablo III, as it is unavailable in Diablo IV.
Will non-combat pets be added to Diablo IV?
Since non-combat pets were a great hit in Diablo III, several Diablo 4 players wonder if Blizzard will introduce non-combat pets to the game.
Associate Game Director, Joseph Piepiora, recently mentioned in an interview that he looks forward to being able to discuss the introduction of non-combat pets in Diablo 4 in the future.
Although his statement did not reveal any specifics about when you can expect to see pets in Diablo 4, his words suggest that it is being considered.
Non-combat pets were only introduced to Diablo III in the fourth season, though, which means that Diablo 4 players may have to wait a few years before non-combat pets are available for collection.
How to adopt a dog or a cat
Although non-combat pets are yet to be released in Diablo 4, players can adopt a dog or a cat. You can find these animals wandering the streets, but if you are struggling to find them, there is at least 1 dog and 1 cat guaranteed in Kyovashad.
All you have to do to adopt them is approach them and use the /hello emote near them. The animal will fall in love with you, and instantly become your most loyal companion. They will follow you as you go on adventures and always stay by your side.
