To learn Elvish in DD2, you have to offer a Bunch of Flowers to an Elf in Sacred Arbor to earn the Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 (DD2) invites players to take on the role of the Arisen, who is a hero marked by a dragon whom they must defeat.
Since the game launched in March 2024, players have had several questions about progressing in the game.
One of the most frequent asked questions has been how to speak Elvish, which is a language only spoken by the residents of Sacred Arbor.
Although you do not have to learn Elvish, it can be incredibly handy, as you will know what the elves say when you interact with them.
You can learn Elvish by using a pawn specialization, specifically the Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome.
Once you have learned the language, your Main Pawn will gain the Woodland Wordsmith specialization and it will automatically translate Elvish numbers and words when you interact with the Elves.
To obtain the Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome, you have to offer gifts to an elf of your choosing in Sacred Arbor. Keep in mind that you may have to give the elf several gifts to receive the pawn specialization.
Alternatively, players can use the Arborheart Riftstone in Sacred Arbor to view the Unique Pawns and summon Official Pawns.
You can sort the Official Pawns list by specialization and find a Support Pawn which already knows Woodland Wordsmith.
If you hire an Official Pawn, it will be more than happy to translate Elvish for your entire party.
Pawn Specializations
In addition to learning Elvish, you can learn about the following Pawn Specializations in DD2:
Name | Description |
Chirurgeon | It gives the pawn initiative to use curatives on you and any pawns in the party. |
Logistician | This specialization allows the pawn to combine items. |
Hawker | Pawns can purchase items from your backpack for a price. |
Aphonite | It forces the pawn to stop talking in most situations. |
Forager | This specialization marks the location of items available for foraging on the map. Players can therefore find minerals for upgrading armor and weapons while traveling. |
What gifts should you offer?
To obtain the Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome, you have to offer gifts to elves in Sacred Arbor, but players should remember that every elf prefers specific gifts.
To determine what types of gift an elf likes, you have to meet them by hailing and interacting with them until their name is listed in the NPC Logbook in the “History” section of your Pause Menu.
When their name appears in the Logbook, you can see what they like and dislike. To gain the pawn specialization quicker, we recommend that you only give the elves items that they like. You will most likely find that most elves prefer a Bunch of Flowers
Players have to combine Sunbloom, Moonglow and Noonbloom to craft a Bunch of Flowers. These flowers are typically all over Vermund.
How to use the Woodland Wordsmith
When you have acquired your Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome, you have to equip it to your pawn. Players can open the “Implements” tab in their inventory and simply use the Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome to switch to that skill.
That being said, this process overwrites your current pawn’s specialization. For this reason, several players will rather hire an Official Pawn that already knows Woodland Wordsmith to translate Elvish, as they do not want to lose their current spawn specialization.
Keep in mind, though, that hiring an Official Pawn costs in-game money and their level will not increase.
Players who decide to procure the Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome and learn Elvish will increase the level of their Pawn, which can be quite beneficial in the long run.
Should you learn Elvish?
There are several players who have decided that they are not interested in learning Elvish, even though it can help you progress in the game.
After learning Elvish, you can properly label Sacred Arbor’s offers and you will be able to see everything that the Smithy has to offer.
Allegedly, this vendor’s goods are especially valuable for Archers, Sorcerers and Magic Archers.
DD2 players who learn Elvish will also learn the Sacred Arbor exclusive enchanting style, Elven Smithing. This style significantly increases the magical attributes of your equipment.
If you are not interested in obtaining the Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome, you can simply hire a Pawn that has learned the language to help you complete the questline in Sacred Arbor.
When you are finished in the area, you can hire another Pawn to help you complete the next questline.
