By riding a mount in World of Warcraft, you can reach zones much quicker as the mounts increases your movement speed
World of Warcraft (WoW) is set in a vast, open world in which you can explore unique areas, vanquish powerful enemies and enjoy several game modes.
To make traveling easier in Azeroth, WoW’s developer, Blizzard, has introduced a number of mounts that you can acquire.
Mounts are a highly sought-after form of transportation in which players ride atop the backs of various exotic beasts or machines.
There are some classes, including Warlocks, Death Knights and Paladins, which can learn to summon mounts as a class perk.
If you travel on a mount, you will reach your destination much quicker than if you walk or run. New WoW players should take note that learning to ride a mount is a skill that should be learned.
When your character reaches level 10, you can talk to a Riding Trainer and purchase Apprentice Riding.

This skill allows you to use a mount that will increase your movement speed by 60 percent. As your character’s level increases, you can return to the Riding Trainer and upgrade your riding skill to increase your ground speed.
When you reach level 30, you can talk to the Flying Trainer who will teach you the skill to ride flying mounts.
Keep in mind, however, that Flying in some zones requires Pathfinder, which is an additional flying skill that you can unlock by completing quests in associated zones.
It is noteworthy that training your riding and flying skills costs a specific amount of in-game currencies. We therefore recommend that you save up some of your gold and silver to pay for your lessons.
Skill costs
In order to increase your riding and flying skills, you have to purchase the different ranks. The table below lists the cost of the ranks:
Rank | Mount type | Training cost | Required level |
Apprentice Riding | Ground | 10 Silver | 10 |
Journeyman Riding | Ground | 50 Gold | 20 |
Expert Riding | Flying | 250 Gold | 30 |
Draenor Pathfinder | Flying | 250 Gold | 30 |
Broken Isles Pathfinder | Flying | 250 Gold | 30 |
Master Riding | Flying | 5 000 Gold | 40 |
As seen in the table, you can purchase the necessary Pathfinders to be able to fly in specific areas in WoW from the Flying Master. If you do not purchase these items, you will not be able to fly in those areas of the map.
How to acquire a mount
To obtain your first mount, you have to go to a vendor and purchase it with gold.
However, mounts can also be earned as a class perk, by completing achievements and they can be purchased from the WoW Store. However, you can also earn mounts by destroying rare mobs.
Some mounts bind on pickup, while others bind on use, which means that when you use the item in your inventory, it will bind to your account. The mounts that bind on use can be sold in the WoW auction or you can gift it to other players.
WoW players are very willing to spend a lot of gold for a rare mount and therefore, several players decide to sell the mounts that they earn by progressing in the game.
Mount interface
Players can use their mount collection interface once they have learned to ride and purchased a mount.
To access your mount collection, you have to click on the “Collections” icon on your Action bar, however, you can also hold in the “Shift” and “P” keys on your keyboard to open the menu.
This menu allows you to see all the mounts that you have collected and you can also choose the mount that you want your character to ride.
Players can select as many favorite mounts as they want to and by default, these mounts will be listed at the top of your mount list.
Favoriting mounts will also allow you to use the “Summon Random Favorite Mount” button. You can click this icon to summon a random mount, appropriate to the area, from your favorites.
Rarest mounts
Some mounts in WoW are considered common, which makes them quite easy to procure, however, there are a few mounts which are very rare and therefore, you may struggle to collect them.
The table below lists some of the rarest mounts in WoW:
Name | How to acquire |
The Sea Turtle | This mount can be obtained via random fishing nodes throughout Northrend |
White Riding Camel | Obtained by a rare card in the Hearthstone expansion, Tomb of the Forgotten |
Midnight Courser | You have to obtain 250 Honor |
