Ni no Kuni Cross Worlds: Lava Valley

One of the Battlefield features you can enjoy is the Lava Valley, which is a player-versus-player (PvP) arena gaming mode. This mode only becomes available once you have completed the Higgledies Wanted in Sky Island quest.

In this mode, players are placed in 1 of 8 leagues, as determined by their rating scores. It is important to keep in mind that rating scores are assigned per character, not per account. This means that characters on the same account can have varying scores, which places them in different leagues.

You receive your rating score and league after you have done 5 placement matches. Characters with no play record are categorised as no placement.

Usually, the regular season of Lava Valley Team Arena starts on 25 May every year. When the regular season ends, only friendly matches and pre-season matches are available until the next regular season kicks off. Players should note that though friendly matches are always available, they do not grant rewards.

There are various methods to use to participate in the Lava Valley, one of which is joining the mode solo. You can use the quick start option to automatically form a team of 3 random players with similar ratings to yours.

Alternatively, you can invite team members through the battlefield preparation screen. You can only invite players who are in the same league, Kingdom, or who are part of your friend list.

If you perform well in a match, you receive a promotion. Subsequently, you will fight against higher-tier players. However, if you lose a match, you could be demoted.

What is demotion protection?

Once you have been promoted to the next league, you benefit from demotion protection. This protects you from instantly being demoted again after being promoted to a league. This buff becomes active from a certain number of matches, but if you lose a match during this time, your score will not drop below the league’s minimum.

The number of matches you will be protected from according to your league:

League Number of matches
Legend 1
Grand Master 2
Master, Diamond, and Platinum 3
Bronze, Silver, and Gold 5

Achievement rewards Players can get honour tokens whether their match ended in defeat, victory, or a draw.
Season rewards You earn these rewards based on the league you are in when the season ends. The rewards are calculated based on your account’s highest league.
Season best grade rewards Each league offers rewards every week during the season. It is based on the highest league a character has reached in the previous week.

Pre-season and friendly matches

It is worth noting that you can form a team with anyone, regardless of their points, during this period.
