This price point was typical for AAA game releases at the time, reflecting the significant development costs and anticipated popularity of the title. This price secured players a copy of the base game, allowing them to immerse themselves in the Viking-era saga.

Delving into the World of Valhalla

A Viking Saga on Multiple Platforms

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla launched on November 10, 2020, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows, Xbox Series X and Series S, and Stadia. The PlayStation 5 version followed two days later on November 12. This simultaneous release across multiple platforms allowed a wide audience to experience the game from the very start. The initial price of $59.99/Rs. 3,999 for the base game was the barrier to entry for this immersive Norse experience. However, this did not deter gamers. Valhalla achieved significant sales milestones shortly after release, showing its popularity and resonating with players looking for a large open world and action packed adventure.

What Did This Price Point Get You?

The initial cost granted players the full base game experience, which includes the vast open world of England, Norway, and later mythical realms like Asgard and Jotunheim. Players could dive into the narrative of Eivor, a Viking raider, as they navigate complex political landscapes, engage in raids and battles, and build their settlement. The main story arc alone provides a substantial number of gameplay hours. For instance, on average players spend around 59 hours and 39 minutes to complete the main story arc. However, a completionist run to achieve 100% completion can extend gameplay time up to 144 hours as the game has 782 collectibles including wealth, mysteries and artifacts. These numbers highlight the value for money initially provided by the purchase of the base game at its release price.

Post-Launch Content and Add-Ons

It’s essential to note that the base price did not cover the game’s post-launch content. Ubisoft launched several DLCs and expansions including “Dawn of Ragnarok”, which added around 35 hours of additional content and significantly expanded the game’s scope. These additional content packs were sold separately and cost extra, potentially making the overall cost of the full Valhalla experience considerably more than the initial $59.99. The need to buy extra content for a complete experience is a common trend in the gaming industry, and it does impact the overall cost beyond the base price.

A Financial Success Story

Despite the initial price and extra costs associated with DLC content, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has been incredibly successful. Ubisoft confirmed the game has topped $1 billion in revenue, making it the highest-earning Assassin’s Creed game in series history. This success highlights the popularity of the game as well as the effectiveness of its pricing strategy. These sales numbers are testament to the value players found in the game and the world that Ubisoft created within it.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1.
