The question of who looks after Qiqi, the adorable yet amnesiac zombie of Liyue Harbor, is more complex than it might initially appear. While she resides at the Bubu Pharmacy, her care extends beyond the walls of that establishment and involves multiple key figures. The primary caretaker and guardian of Qiqi is Baizhu, the enigmatic owner of the pharmacy. However, Qiqi’s life is also intertwined with several other characters who play significant roles in her well-being, even if they don’t provide constant care. These include Yaoyao, her best friend, and to some degree, Hu Tao, who has a rather… complicated relationship with the zombie girl.
Baizhu: The Primary Caretaker
Baizhu’s Role and Motivations
Baizhu is, without a doubt, the most significant figure in Qiqi’s life. As the owner of Bubu Pharmacy, he is the one who provides her with shelter, food, and general care. However, Baizhu’s motivations are not entirely altruistic. It’s revealed that his interest in Qiqi stems, at least partially, from his desire for eternal life. He sees Qiqi’s unique state as a valuable study subject, hoping to unlock the secrets of immortality. He is trying to combat the mysterious condition that affects him physically. Despite these underlying motives, it’s clear that Baizhu does genuinely care for Qiqi on some level. He ensures she is safe and protected, and he also patiently deals with her amnesia and constant need for reminders. Baizhu’s dedication to Qiqi highlights a complex interplay between scientific curiosity and genuine guardianship.
Baizhu and Qiqi’s Relationship
Baizhu’s relationship with Qiqi is akin to that of a guardian and child. He is responsible for her daily needs, monitors her health, and protects her from harm. Even though Qiqi often forgets things, including him, Baizhu demonstrates an incredible level of patience and understanding. It’s also worth noting that Baizhu’s care for Qiqi is often depicted through his actions rather than direct verbal expressions of affection. His quiet dedication speaks volumes about his role in Qiqi’s life.
Other Important Figures in Qiqi’s Life
Yaoyao: The Best Friend
Yaoyao holds the title of Qiqi’s best friend, despite Qiqi’s frequent memory lapses. Yaoyao often refers to Qiqi as her dearest friend, showing genuine concern and affection for her. Sadly, Qiqi’s amnesia means she sometimes forgets who Yaoyao is, but Yaoyao’s devotion never falters. Yaoyao even went as far as asking Baizhu if he could cure Qiqi’s amnesia, showcasing her deep care and desire for Qiqi’s well-being. This friendship adds a crucial emotional component to Qiqi’s life.
Hu Tao: The Conflicted “Friend”
Hu Tao, the Director of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, has a peculiar, if not contentious, role in Qiqi’s life. Early on, she repeatedly tried to kidnap and bury Qiqi, believing it was the best way to release her from her undead state. She initially saw it as an act of mercy, not understanding the intricacies of Qiqi’s existence. Despite these initial attempts, Hu Tao has since changed her attitude and now considers herself Qiqi’s friend. However, Hu Tao has become somewhat of a ‘bugbear’ to Qiqi due to these prior incidents. Despite the conflict, this unique dynamic is a key part of Qiqi’s interaction with the world around her. Hu Tao even sent Qiqi an apology letter, expressing deep regret that she couldn’t bury Qiqi faster.
The Adepti’s Role
Though not directly involved in her day-to-day life now, the Adepti have a pivotal role in Qiqi’s origin story. The adepti accidentally killed her and used their power to bring her back to life. After she went berserk due to their power, they sealed her power away. Therefore, she is in fact a zombie that had Adeptal energy imbued within her. The Mountain Shaper and Xiao were both involved in her revival process, and this shared history connects her to these powerful beings. While they are not currently her caretakers, their actions directly shaped her existence.
