Diablo Immortal players can now split their high ranked gems to obtain multiple lower-rank gems of the same type.
On Monday, 4 March 2024, Blizzard released the Cruel Appetites Stir with Infernal Hunger update, and it introduced the Season 24 Battle Pass as well as several in-game events. The update also revealed that players can now enjoy the Gem Splitting feature.
This new feature allows players to take a normal gem, such as Citrine, Ruby, Sapphire, Tourmaline, Topaz and Aquamarine, and break it down into multiple gems of the same type.
Keep in mind, though, that even if the gem type will remain, it will be of a lower rank.
When you split a gem, you will receive Echo Crystals, which increases the rank of the gem which was split. According to the content update, players can only split 3 gems weekly and you cannot split Rank 1 Gems.
You should also note that Gems which are granted from Gem Splitting cannot be traded. We therefore recommend that you ensure that you are 100 percent certain you want to split a Gem before going through the process.
Players who are interested in splitting some of their Gems have to travel to Westmarch, where they will find Vic the Master Jeweler.
How to split a Gem
Once you have interacted with Vic, you can open the Gem Splitting menu. On the right side of the menu, you will see that you have to select a gem from the left side of the screen.
After selecting the Gem that you want to split, thit will appear on the right side of the menu.
To confirm the process, gamers must click on the “Split Gem” tab. You will be able to see what Gems you will receive by splitting the Gem before completing the process.
For instance, splitting a Rank 2 Sapphire Gem will result in 3 Rank 1 Sapphires. Splitting a Rank 4 Sapphire on the other hand will result in 3 Rank 3 Sapphires.
Can you upgrade the Gems that you split?
There is a possibility that you may change your mind about Splitting a specific Gem after you have completed the process.
Fortunately, if this is the case, you can simply head to Seril and click the “Gem Services” tab to upgrade your Gems. You can then upgrade the Gem’s rank again if you wish to do so.

On the official Diablo Immortal Discord server, several players have questioned why Blizzard introduced the gem splitting feature.
According to the update, the introduction of Bracelets meant the addition of more potential gem slots.
Gem Splitting allows players to now use higher-ranked gems to generate multiple lower-rank gems which can be slotted into Bracelets.
