Several Discord users are experiencing the gray screen bug, fortunately, there are numerous methods that you can use to resolve it.
Multiplayer video games often require that gamers use Discord, which allows you to communicate with voice calls, video calls, text messaging, media, and files in private chats or servers.
Some players have revealed that they are experiencing a bug with Discord, where the entire application turns gray suddenly.
Discord screen glitches
There is nothing more frustrating than encountering screen bugs while you are using Discord.
There are several bugs, such as a gray screen, audio not working while streaming, a green screen when your camera is not functioning, a black screen, and screen flickering while you are watching a Discord stream.
Although the bugs are annoying to deal with, most issues can be resolved by rebooting your personal computer (PC). However, there is a chance that this will not fix the issue, and there are numerous other methods that you can use to resolve these bugs.
Discord gray
Although Discord is 8 years old, it still experiences bugs from time to time. One of the most common bugs Discord users are experiencing is when the entire Discord application becomes gray and empty.
The common causes of this issue are problems with improper Discord settings or issues with recent Discord updates. If you are experiencing this bug, you should close the application entirely and then launch it again.
If this does not resolve the issue, it is advisable that you delete the Discord folder in AppData. To do this, you have to close Discord entirely and open the task manager. Right click on the Discord processes one at a time and select ‘’End Task”.
Next, press the windows button and the “R” button simultaneously to open the Run dialog. Type “%appdata%” in the search bar to open the “Roaming” folder in AppData.
After you have located the Discord folder in the list, press the “Shift” and “Delete” keys to remove it from your system completely. You can then relaunch Discord and it will download the deleted files.
You can also launch Discord as Administrator. Instead of running it normally, you can select the ”Run as Administrator” tab to run it. There is a possibility that this will resolve the gray bug that Discord users are experiencing.
Alternative method: Clearing cache data
If none of these methods resolve the bug, you can try clearing Discord’s cache data. To do this, you have to open the “Run” feature in the “Windows Start” menu. Then, you have to type “%appdata%” in the search button to locate Discord in the list.
In the Discord folder, you will find the cache folder. Users can delete all the files in this folder to clear the cache data. Keep in mind that this method may not work and therefore, you may have to attempt other methods to fix the bug.
Possible exception
If you tried all the methods mentioned in this article to fix your gray Discord screen, and they do not help, you may have to uninstall Discord from your computer entirely.
To do this, you have to open the “Programs and Features” menu, where you will find a list of the applications installed on your computer.
You can right-click on “Discord” and select the “Uninstall” option to remove it from your computer. However you also have to delete the AppData from your device. Once everything is removed, you can reinstall Discord from the official website.
Other known Discord screen bugs
In addition to a gray Discord screen, there are numerous other bugs that you may experience. The table below lists some of the known screen bugs and a possible solution to each:
