By upgrading the rarity level of your Subordinate Cities in Evony, you will receive greater buffs and bonuses.
When you reach level 11 in Evony: The King’s Return, you will unlock a Subordinate City within your keep. Monarchs will also be able to occupy other Subordinate Cities on the world map.
There are 5 rarity levels of Sub-Cities you can find on the map. The color of the city indicates its rarity, as shown below:

The higher the rarity of the Sub-City, the more benefits you will earn. It is therefore crucial that you upgrade your Sub-Cities on a regular basis.
To upgrade a Sub-City, you have to open the screen of the main city and click the arrow to the right of the sub-city name to display the upgrade screen.
Before you can upgrade a Sub-City, your Keep must be a certain level, and you need to pay a specific quantity of gems to complete the process. Every rarity upgrade has specific requirements that you have to meet before you can fully upgrade the Sub-City
Once you have completed the upgrade process, you will receive additional bonuses from your Sub-City.

Players essentially have to upgrade their Keep and accumulate a specific number of Gems to upgrade their Sub-Cities. The following table lists the requirements for each rarity level:

Sub-City benefits
If you increase the rarity of a Sub-City, the effectiveness of the Sub-City buffs increases.
Players will also notice that the training speed of troops in the Sub-City increases and the number of troops that players can hold in a Sub-City increases. Furthermore, the speed of gold production in Sub-Cities will increase.
For instance, if you upgrade an Uncommon Sub-City, you will benefit from the following:

Attacking NPC Sub-Cities
To obtain a Sub-City, you may have to attack an NPC Sub-City. Keep in mind that the strength of each city depends on its rarity:
