MCoC: Winter of Woe Gauntlet

MCoC’s Winter of Woe event is coming to an end, but you can still enjoy the Gauntlet fights to earn rich rewards.

The Winter of Woe activity in Marvel Contest of Champions (MCoC) was announced in February 2024.

Since its release, players had to defeat numerous enemies over a few weeks. Since the event is coming to an end, Summoners can now test their Champions’ capabilities in the Gauntlet.

Similar to the previous Winter of Woe fights, you have to defeat specific opponents for the Gauntlet to earn rich rewards. However, there are a few mechanics and objectives that you need to be aware of before starting a fight.

The activities that you have to complete essentially require that you to complete the Gauntlet without using a specific class type, which means that there are 6 objectives that players can complete.

According to YouTuber, Karatemike415, you do not have to complete all 6 objectives, however, but the ones that do you have to complete are determined by the previous WoW objectives.

That being said, players can complete all 6 objectives if they want to, but it is not mandatory.

The Champions that you have to defeat for the Gauntlet include Aegon, Danny Moonstar, Hulkling and Spider-Ham, also referred to as the Pig.

The most difficult fights are against Aegon and the Pig, so we recommend that you read through their nodes carefully to understand the fight’s mechanics.

Strengths and weaknesses

Before taking on the Pig and Aegon, you should consider their strengths and weaknesses:

Champion Strengths Weaknesses
Aegon
  • He gains an ability at 20 Combo Meter hits that grants him Unstoppable and Combo Shield when an Opponent triggers an evade effect.
  • His attacks have multiple hits, which allows him to build his Combo Meter easily
  • For the majority of his ability to build his Combo Meter and he loses them when the meter resets. This makes unblockable tracks even more dangerous to him
  • Once his Combo Meter is high enough, his Critical Hits grant him new strengths and abilities. However, the glancing ability weakens Aegon significantly.
Spider-Ham
  • He can punish like Sasquatch and Doctor Doom by applying fresh Porker Poppers every time they activate another Special
  • His abilities are significantly improved and he has a high level of Spider-Nonsense.
  • If a Champion is able to get through a fight using basic attacks, they can avoid Pig’s threats
  • He uses Evade both on attack and defense, so he struggles against enemies who can ignore Evade.

Strategy

Although there are no recommended Champions for the Gauntlet fights, there are some strategic points that you have to consider. For the fight against Aegon, you have to intercept as much as possible to obtain the reinforced passive.

We advise Summoners to perform a heavy attack after Aegon uses a Special Attack and you should ensure that you block after dealing an intercept.

Even though it is not required, you can use a Mystic character to take advantage of all the Fury buffs.

To defeat the Pig, we recommend that you focus on an Evade Counter, and Kate Bishop is perfect in this fight.

MCoC Summoners should not use Purify and should attempt to match special attacks. It is crucial that you alternate your combo to vanquish Spider-Ham.

Aegon

One of the Champions that you have to defeat for the Gauntlet is Aegon, who lost his arm in a battle against the Master. Aegon starts with 1000 Combo Meter, which will definitely have an influence on the battle.

The chances of your character being killed are high, but you can use Reinforcing Rush to your advantage. If you intercept Aegon’s Dash attack with a basic attack, you will receive a reinforced passive and a Bulwark passive.

This increases your block proficiency by 10 000 for 15 seconds, which means that you will be able to block Aegon’s attacks.

Since the objectives for the Gauntlet are class-based, you should decide which Champion to use based on your Roster. However, America Chavez is considered the best Champion to use to win the fight.

Pig

Pig has a Heal Block Passive, which means that the attacker is permanently affected by a passive Heal Block. We therefore recommend that you do not use any suicides as you will instantly be killed.

The “Not Afraid of Stings” node essentially indicates that if you have 3 debuffs and you use a special attack while you have power stings, you will not be affected by the power stings damage. Instead, you will reflect the damage to the Pig.

Because of the “One too Many Hits” node, you will be inflicted with a power sting debuff for 8 seconds every time you gain a bar of power.

The Debilitate node reveals that debuffs’ duration inflicted by the defender is increased by 100%. These debuffs will help you destroy the Pig, however, some nodes can be used against you.

“Turn the Tide” mentioned that one of the attacker’s Special Attacks is randomly chosen at the beginning of the fight, but this rotates every 10 seconds or when the Attacker ends a Combo with an attack that did not end their previous combo.

The attacker’s special attacks suffer a 100% decrease in ability accuracy and a 90% decrease in weakness unless it is the chosen Special Attack.
