Digital Extremes, developer of the popular online shooting game, Warframe, recently announced during TennoCon that the game will be available to cross-play, in order to bring players together.
On Saturday, 17 July 2021, Digital Extremes announced during TennoCon 2021 that its online shooter, Warframe, will get full cross-save and cross-play support.
This means that gamers can take their characters across Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, their personal computers (PC), as well as Xbox One and Xbox S/X.
Warframe is a free-to-play action role-playing, third-person shooter online multiplayer game, developed by Digital Extremes.
In the game, players control members of the Tenno, who use their powered Warframes along with a variety of weapons and abilities to complete missions.
Warframe includes elements of shooting and melee games, parkour and role-playing, to allow gamers to advance their Tenno with improved gear. The game features both player versus player, and player versus environment modes.
Warframe was initially released as a single-platform game on Microsoft Windows in 2013, however, console-only platforms soon followed.
Gamers have been asking for cross-platform play for years, and the developer finally gave players what they wanted – a cross-save and cross-platform feature.
Sheldon Carter, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Digital Extremes, stated, “Community is incredibly important to us.”
Adding, “Opening up cross-play and cross-save is just one of many more efforts we will take on to bring more players together, including extending Warframe’s fast, fluid, action combat experience to other global gaming platforms.”
Gamers could not keep their excitement to themselves and took to social media to share their opinions.
PlayWarframe posted a video announcing the news on its YouTube channel, where one fan wrote, “My only wish has been granted. I think I hear angels singing, wait I am not ready yet. I am too excited to die!”
While another fan stated, “Finally, I could join my friends on PC, while being a PlayStation 4 player. I spent too much into the quadruples in the game to one way transfer, so I waited for a time like this. Thank you, Digital Extremes!”
During the TennoLive video stream, the developer also hinted that another version of Warframe is currently in development for mobile devices too.
However, no more details on this were shared at the event. Furthermore, no specific date was released for when gamers can expect to cross-play and cross-save.
