As a Forsaken player in WoW, you will receive various racial traits, however the classes you can choose from are limited.
In World of Warcraft (WoW) you can play a powerful hero who protects the world of Azeroth from all threats.
During the character creation phase, you can choose your faction, race, class as well as your character’s customization options.
Forsaken Player
One of the factions that you can select is the Horde, who are fervent keepers of freedom and hope. This faction allows you to choose between several races, one of which is the Undead.
The official description reveals that death offered no escape from the scourges of humans killed during the Lich King’s campaign to scour the living from Lordaeron.
When his grasp over the Scourge faltered after the Third War, a contingent of undead broke free of their master’s iron will.
Calling themselves Forsaken, they now struggle to thrive in a world which has come to despise their existence.
The Forsaken are primarily composed of undead humans. It is a diverse faction that includes various races at its biological core. Since they share goals and loyalties, they have all assumed their racial identity as Forsaken.
Since the Forsaken has played a vital part in WoW’s history, players can play as an undead character to explore the fast open world of Azeroth. At the time of writing this, there are 8 playable classes as a Forsaken character.
In addition to receiving class skills as a Forsaken player, you will receive numerous racial traits that other races do not have.
Racial Traits
Every race in WoW has racial traits which are specific to that race. As a Forsaken player, you will not have the same racial traits as other races.
Players who choose Forsaken as their character’s race will receive the following traits:
Racial Trait name | Description |
Cannibalize | This trait allows Forsaken players to consume a nearby corpse to recover health and mana. |
Shadow Resistance | It reduces the amount of Shadow Damage that your character receives. |
Touch of the Grave | There is a chance that your character’s attack and damaging skills will drain the target, which deals additional Shadow damage while increase your health points. |
Will of the Forsaken | It removes Charm, Fear and Sleep effects from your character. |
Available classes
As a Forsaken player, you will not have access to every class in WoW. The classes that you can choose from as a Forsaken are:
Class | Description |
Warrior | They combine strength, leadership and a vast knowledge of arms and armor to wreak havoc on the battlefield |
Hunter | These characters are called by nature to explore the unforgiving primal world. |

Priests | They are devoted to the spiritual and express their unwavering faith by serving the people. |
Warlock | Warlocks are voracious spellcasters who summon demonic minions to fight beside them. |
Monk | They can shoulder deadly attacks through the haze of their brews, heal broken chi flows and vanquish their enemies with wind-quick fists and feet. |
Death Knight | After Bolvar Fordragon donned the helm to keep the undead Scourge contained, he called forth a generation of Death Knights to join the Ebon Blade’s cause. |
Forsaken mounts and pets
As a Forsaken player, you can use any mount and pet, but according to WoW’s lore, Forsaken mainly use skeletal horses as ground mounts and bats as flying mounts. They also use carriages pulled by subjugated ettins.
Forsaken generally keep pets such as the undead blighthounds and the magical darkhounds.
Keep in mind that if you are playing Forsaken, you are not forced to use these specific mounts and pets as cosmetic items, and mounts do not influence your gameplay.
However, if you are a die-hard WoW player and you want to play the game according to the lore, we recommend that you use the mentioned mounts and pets.
Why is Forsaken rarely played?
Several WoW players have been questioning why the Forsaken race is rarely chosen during the character creation phase.
One player mentioned that it is likely due to the fact that the Forsaken is considered the most evil race in WoW and most players like to play the good guys in the store.
Furthermore, most players select Paladin, Shaman or Druid as their classes and as a Forsaken player, you will not have access to these classes.
Another WoW player mentioned that as other races got racial buffs and traits, the Forsaken remained the same.
