Commanders level 30 and higher can now participate in STFC’s new activity, Wave Defense, which requires that you collaborate with other players.
In Star Trek Fleet Command (STFC) you can help locals, fight hostiles and negotiate peace in a variety of space-based missions.
As the Commander of a starbase on the edge of civilized space, you can forge alliances, defeat enemies and build an epic fleet to dominate the galaxy.
Waves
Scopely released update 61 on Tuesday, 5 November 2023 and it introduced various new features for players to enjoy.
Commanders level 30 and higher can now enjoy the Waves, otherwise known as the Wave Defense, activity.
However, to gain access to this mode you have to construct a new building; The Facade. In Wave Defense, you have to team up with 4 other players to defend a Central Entity from waves of increasingly powerful hostiles.
At the time of writing, there are 2 different Wave Defenses that you can enjoy, namely S31 Covert Base and Borg Research Lab. Keep in mind, however, that both types of Wave Defenses only occur in specific systems.
Players between level 30 and level 50 can participate in the Borg Research Lab Waves, while Commanders level 40 and level 60 can enjoy the S31 Covert Base Waves.
It is crucial to note that the enemies that you have to fight in the S31 Covert Base are much more difficult to vanquish than the enemies in the Borg Research Lab Waves.
In which systems can you find the Waves?
It is noteworthy that even though the S31 Covert Base Waves and the Borg Research Lab Waves are the same activity, they are not in the same systems.
The table below lists the systems in which you can enjoy the activity:

How to start the Waves activity
In order to participate in a Waves activity, you need to acquire Section 31 Ciphers from the S31 Faction Store. Commanders will get access to this faction store once they have built their Facade building.
You need to travel to one of the above-mentioned systems with your first vessel and summon your second ship when you have arrived in the system.
The leader of the team will then begin the activity and you will then have to defeat hostiles to prevent them from destroying the Central Entity.
If your team survives the first wave, you will become eligible for rewards, and you will receive the maximum amount of rewards if you survive all 10 waves.
Which hostiles do you have to defeat?
Whether you are in the Borg Research Lab or the S31 Covert Base, you will have to vanquish the same foes. STFC players will have to defeat Federation Explorers, Klingon Destroyers and Romulan Battleships.
However, you may also encounter Actian Explorers, Swarm Destroyers, Borg Battleships, Texas Class Invaders and Delta Quadrant Bioships.
