The Diricawl is one of the 13 beasts that you can catch Hogwarts Legacy; in total there are five dens where you can find this magical beast.
Diricawls are plump, fluffy birds that can not fly. They are capable of vanishing and reappearing when they’re in danger. These birds were once known to Muggles by the name of Dodo, but they are now believed to have gone extinct.

How to Catch the Diricawl
Since it is difficult to capture Diricawls, as they can vanish into thin air, the best way to catch one is to use spells like Levioso, Arresto Momentum or Glacius.
They will teleport away if you approach them too closely, so you should cast any of these spells as soon as you come within range of them.
Once they are slowed or immobilized, you can use the Nab-Sack that Deek gave you to capture one.
Diricawl Feathers
Diricawl beasts drop Diricawl Feathers. These Feathers can be used to upgrade and assign traits to gear.
You can get Diricawl Feathers as a reward for the creatures you have rescued. In the Vivarium, in the Room of Requirement, use the Beast Feed and Beast Petting Brush to tame, feed, pet and nurture them.
It is important to note that you will need to wait a certain amount of time to collect the Feathers.
Alternatively, you can purchase the Feathers directly from Brood and Peck, a beast supply shop in Hogsmeade, or from Indira Wolff, a Merchant NPC in Pitt-Upon-Ford in the North Ford Bog region.
She sells Beasts materials for crafting traits to improve your gears. Diricawl Feathers cost 250 Gold Galleons.
Shiny Diricawl
Diricawls come in a variety of different colors. A Shiny variant of the Diricawl is all-white.
Out of 13 beasts, 12 can be caught as a shiny, with each of them having four different variations:
- Adult Shiny (Male)
- Adult Shiny (Female)
- Offspring Shiny (Male)
- Offspring Shiny (Female)
One method of getting a Shiny Offspring, is to breed one Shiny male beast and one Shiny female beast in your Vivarium.
Diricawl Breeding
To unlock the ability to breed the magical beasts in Hogwarts Legacy, you need to first complete the “Foal of the Dead” side quest given to you by Deek in The Room of Requirement to unlock the Breeding Pen.
After completing the quest, go to the spellcraft menu by using the Conjuring Spell in the Vivarium. Select the Breeding Pen from the ‘Beast Items’ menu.
To breed, you’ll need a male and female of the same species. Select the Diricawls – an adult Diricawl male and an adult Diricawl female. Both should be put in the Beast Breeding Pen in the Room of Requirement.
The breeding process Hogwarts Legacy takes 30 minutes of gameplay and will result in the addition of a cute Diricawl creature to your Vivarium.
When correctly cared for, a baby Diricawl will also produce Diricawl Feathers. Keep in mind though, that offsprings do not grow up in Hogwarts Legacy, so they’ll stay young forever.
