MCoC: Defensive Tank

MCoC’s Castling Solo Objective require players to use a Mutant Champion to defeat a Defense: Tank tagged Champion in any game mode

In the April 2024 side quest for Marvel Contest of Champions, players have to progress through The Maze to earn keys for the Vault map.

If you complete these maps, you can earn an abundance of rewards. However, to enter these maps, you have to procure Maze Keys and Vault Keys.

Summoners can complete a variety of solo objectives to earn Maze Keys, but to obtain Vault Keys, you have to complete the Maze’s Threat Levels.

One of the solo objectives you can complete is Castling and it requires that you defeat a Defense: Tank tagged Champion with a Mutant Champion in any game mode.

That being said, you cannot defeat a Defense: Tank tagged Champion in practice mode, as you will not receive any points. Since the solo objective was released, players have wondered what Champions have the Defense: Tank tag.

Unfortunately, there are only 8 Champions in the game with that tag. You therefore have to defeat one of them to complete the solo objective.

Summoners can battle Hulk (Bahamet), The Destroyer, Ant-Man (Future), The Serpent, Absorbing Man, Onslaught, Hulkling or the Hulk.

According to the objective’s description, you have to use a Mutant tagged Champions to vanquish one of the mentioned Champions.

Since there are many Mutant Champions in MCoC, the chances are, you will have a few in your roster.

Weaknesses

Every Defense: Tank Champion has certain weaknesses that you can use to your advantage. The table below lists some of their weaknesses:

Defense: Tank Champion Weakness
Hulk Although he thrives at low health; his Critical Hits bypass Resistance, which makes him susceptible to Crits knocking his health.
Hulkling The best way to control and reduce his healing is by lowering his Regeneration Rate
The Destroyer Inflicting him with non-damaging Debuffs will remove a Destruction Charge and can impede him ever activating its Power Gain
The Serpent Players can use their Special Attacks to slow or even reverse his ability to access increasingly powerful abilities.
Absorbing Man Nodes or opponents that inflict Degeneration, Poison or other kinds of direct damage cut him down quickly.

Mutants

In order to earn points for this solo objective, you have to use Mutants to defeat the Defensive: Tank Champions.

Mutant is one of the 6 Champion Classes in the game, and it has a Class Bonus to Skill. That being said, it is weak to Tech and Combined characters.

There are more than 40 Mutant Characters that you can use to defeat one of the above-mentioned Champions.

Most Summoners may have a few Mutants in their Roster, however, we recommend that you use the strongest Mutant in your character collection.

Mutant Champions that you can use include, but are not limited to:

  • Apocalypse
  • Beast
  • Cable
  • Colossus
  • Cyclops
  • Deadpool
  • Domino
  • Onslaught
  • Old Man Logan
  • Namor
  • Magneto
  • Kitty Pryde
  • Iceman
  • Goldpool
  • Professor X
  • Rogue
  • Sauron
  • Storm (Pyramid X)
  • Sunspot

Modes

As previously mentioned, you can destroy any Defense: Tank tagged Champion in any game mode, excluding practice mode, to earn points for the solo objectives.

On the official MCoC Discord server, several Summoners shared their strategies on how to complete this objective as quickly as possible.

Some  MCoC players prefer to Dual Target a Defense: Tank Tagged Champion, while others will complete a node repeatedly to complete the objectives.

A Summoner named Vero mentioned on the Discord server that he defeated Venom at 4.3.6 to earn points.

The mode that you have to complete to earn the points for the objective therefore depends on your personal preference.

The Maze

You need 3 points to earn a Maze Key, which can be used to enter the Maze Map. There are Threat Levels you can choose from, but you should keep in mind that each level increases with difficulty.

That being said, all Threat Levels are unlocked for progression levels. There are 4 paths that you can complete, but each path requires that you defeat specific enemies.

If you complete a path, you will earn rewards and a key to the Vault of the corresponding Threat Level. This essentially means that if you complete a path in Threat Level 2 of the Maze, you will receive a Threat Level 2 key for the Vault.

Once you enter the Maze, your key will be consumed and therefore, you have to complete the solo objectives multiple times to earn more keys.
